For the next two rounds we're doing something big - too big for one month, actually. So welcome to PART 1 of our musical festival here at
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
WHAT THIS MEANS
This month's challenge and the next will be closely related, and both revolve around music. Music is a limitless source of inspiration that is important to almost everyone in one way or another. Combining music with icons is possible in so many different ways that one month was simply not enough for all the various modes we came up with, and we think this will be a fun two-part challenge. There will be a separate inspiration post and a separate deadline for next round, as usual. The rounds will be distinct enough, so we're hoping that many of you will be inspired enough to participate in both parts - the modes will be very different and, spoiler alert, a little bit harder next month, so if that sounds intimidating, we'd love to see you try this one!
We're starting this musical exploration from a very broad perspective by looking at music in general and its various genres this month.
NORMAL MODE: Create 5-20 icons inspired by music in general. This can mean iconing actual musicians, scenes that involve singing/dancing, stock or screencaps involving musical instruments, use of music-related textures... anything at all, as long as there's some relation to music.
HARD MODE: Create 5-20 icons inspired by music genres. Please label which genre is represented in which icon. If you want to, you can explain your interpretations, but this isn't necessary. You can use a different genre in each icon, make an entire post inspired by just one, or anything in between!
EXTRA HARD MODE: Create 5-20 icons inspired by music genres, while also using one or more of the provided inspiration items or resources (palettes, inspirations icons, songs, textures etc) in each icon.
Please state in your post which mode you're doing!
NOTES ABOUT HARD & EXTRA HARD MODE
Normal mode this round is separate from the other modes; icons made for Hard and Extra hard mode don't need to fit the requirements of Normal mode.
Genres are always an imperfect and subjective classification system. They are difficult to define precisely, and many artists combine elements from various genres. There are still certain well known imagery, times and places, and visual styles associated with each genre of music and the subculture around them. You can use the typical visual styles, settings, attitudes, lyric themes, anything at all that you personally associate with a given genre - don't worry about the accuracy of how you represent the genres, as long as it makes sense to you it's ok. There is an inspiration post for eight example genres below, but we are not claiming to accurately portray the depth and complexity of these genres either - if your interpretation is completely different, that is more than ok!
You are not restricted to the 8 genres that are included in this post; there are almost infinite amounts of genres and subgenres available, and they're all ok for this challenge. In Extra Hard mode, you may also use the provided resources to create an icon of a genre other than the one featured in the inspiration post in question.
