Round 08: Relationships

This round we're focusing on relationships. A cast full of characters who have great individual personalities is nice, but what truly brings the show or movie alive are the interesting dynamics between these characters. While this is a great round for the shippers on board both canon and non-canon ships, this theme is in no way limited to romance; relationships also include family, platonic friendships, teammates, mentoring relationships, and any other meaningful ways two or more characters interact. Relationships can also be negative, be it annoying neighbors or obsessive enemies plotting each other's doom on a galactic scale.

NORMAL MODE: Make 5-20 icons inspired by the general theme of relationships.
HARD MODE: Make a list of your top X (where X is between 5-20) fictional relationships (romantic or platonic), and showcase it in order, one icon per ship. You can make either an all-time favorites list, or a list of current favorites.
EXTRA HARD MODE: The opposite of Hard mode - focus on just one relationship and show its progress in your icons. What stages does the relationship go through? What are their key scenes? Most iconic lines? This is your chance to show all the wonderful complexity of your favorite ship in icon form!

Note that not every icon needs to have 2+ character. Sometimes an icon of just one character can represent a relationship, if the screencap choice, text, or another symbol brings in the other character's presence.

Just wondering — I have 6 or 7 favourite X's so if I wanted to do each is that possible? I suppose I could just catagorise that under Easy. Just making sure I don't confuse myself again!

Hard mode means one icon per relationship, so if you want to icon those 6-7 specifically, Hard mode would mean a set of 6-7 icons where each icon has a different ship. A 20-icon set for Hard mode would mean a list of your top 20 relationships.

However, if you'd prefer to make a set of more than 6-7 icons but only use those 6-7 ships, the best way to go would be Normal mode, which doesn't require a different ship for each icon. I hope this makes sense and answered your question :)

Just trying to clarify my idea, lmao.

Say I wanted to do split my icons into four different groups that fall under the category 'relationships' (eg, Friendship, familial, etc), I would then do one different relationship per icon. Would it then be okay to use the same character in more than one icon, but for a different relationship? For example, Buffy and Willow would fall under the 'friendship' category, but Buffy and Dawn would be 'familial'.

Hello and sorry for the late response. :) If you choose normal mode, then yes, you can make Buffy/Willow friendship and Buffy/Dawn family and so on. You can do any relationships and use same character many time on normal mode. :) I hope this help!

For the Hard mode (or maybe all modes really :)) can we make a relationship with, ekhm, objects? Like Thor and Mjolnir, Loki and Tessareact or even Draco and Apple (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Drapple). If not, can we use animals or other living creatures that are not people, i.e. AntMan and Anthony (the fly) or Daenerys and her dragons.

Sorry for these weird questions but I have some ideas and I don't know if I can that will fit the rules :)

Hmm, good questions! I'd say that in order for something to qualify as an interpersonal relationship, both/all parties involved should be at least sentient. So animals would be fine (anthropomorphic or not), and if your fandom has sentient objects (like the candle and the clock in Beauty and the Beast), those are fine too. But I'd have to say no to drapple, although I thank you very much for bringing this glorious thing to my attention xD

I hope this makes sense, of course people also can have emotional bonds to non-sentients objects, I just feel like that's a different definition of a "relationship".

for the hard mode can I mix say top 15 favourites and 5 new ships that I have discovered recently or would that be normal mode, as I have recently discovered a new ship, but I'm having trouble getting caps for them

There are different ways of doing Hard mode, one option is that you could make a top 20 current favorites (as opposed to top 20 all time favorites). This list would probably include those five new ships, if I'm reading this right. A mixed list as you described would technically be normal mode, but it's still a fun twist of your own that you could explain in the entry :) I hope this answered the question, but if not, please ask for further clarification!

If you choose to go for Hard mode, if some subject is impossible to find caps for that's an entirely acceptable reason to leave them out even if they belong to your top20 list.

Thank you for answering my question, I was hoping to mix them till I got the caps I needed, but the place I request is shut to new requests. I could have current ones, but those are only 5 as I have not watched that many TV shows that have ships. So I will have to do the normal or the hard mode with all-time favorites
