As some of you might have guessed, we're having a summer vacation this year too. It's the same thing as last year: the mods are away, there won't be any new challenges, but all old challenges are temporarily open again, so you can enter as many as you like! The next regular round will be posted at the start of September, so you have until August 31st to enter old challenges. I'll come by to post a few reminders when it's getting close.

Please note that the summer rewind and all future challenges take place ONLY on Dreamwidth.

LIST OF OLD CHALLENGES
Feel free to enter one or more of these!

Round 01: Technical Game *
Round 02: Heroes vs Villains
Round 03: Vibrant vs Muted
Round 04: Memory Lane
Round 05: Atmospheric
Round 06: Minimalism vs Complexity
(Round 07: All Things Random)**
Round 08: Relationships
Round 09: Coordinates of Style
Round 10: Friendship Book
Round 11: Cropping
Round 12: Bingo
Round 13: Icon Crossing***
Round 14: Character Strengths
Round 15: World of Music pt1
Round 16: World of Music pt2
Round 17: Bright vs Dark

SPECIAL NOTES:
* Round 1 is still doable; check the Python code from the previous Summer Rewind post.
** Round 7 is very difficult to reopen, since that round required a ton of randomizing for each participant. If you asked for a set of prompts for this round back then and didn't enter, you can enter with those prompts now. If this is not the case and you still especially want to enter this challenge, feel free to pick one of the already randomized prompt sets for one of the participants who either did not enter a set, or ask for a permission to use the set randomized for someone who did enter (you use mine if you want to - I was jsfunction on LJ). The randomized prompt sets can be found here (link to the LJ version, because it will be easier to check there with the correct usernames who entered the round and who did not; see entries from this tag. You'll need to skip prompt 12 (random remake) or figure out a way to randomize one of your own icons to remake, please don't go and remake someone else's icon!
*** Round 13 required intense randomizing, so it's not doable completely as was intended, but if you want to do this one, you'll need to do the parent icon randomizing yourself. Here's a simple algorithm: count how many icon posts you have, assign each one a number (let's say there are N posts total), randomize a number between 1-N, see which post this number corresponds to, and randomize an icon inside that post, repeat as many times as needed (40 if you want to make 20 icons, as each icon required two parents). If you have a massive amount of posts, you can freely choose a limit for how long back you want to go at max, in other words, you can use only the N latest sets.

Even though there are ways to do the more difficult challenges, I'd strongly recommend the easier to understand rounds for this, since the mods aren't around to answer any questions you might have, so please pick rounds and modes that are completely clear to you.

ROUND RECOMMENDATIONS
If you're new to this comm and don't want to read each of the challenge posts, here's a short challenge recommendation guide!

I'm looking for...
* simple technical challenges -> Rounds 3, 6, 11, 15, 17
* complicated technical challenges -> Rounds 1, 9
* different prompts for each icon -> Rounds 1, 7, 12
* challenges based mostly on subject choices -> Rounds 2, 4, 8, 14
* something more interpretative -> Rounds 5, 8, 10, 14, 16

FAQ
Do icon number limits still apply?
Kind of; each set can still only have 5-20 icons (except for round 9 which you can still enter 4-21 icons per set), but you can make as many sets (for one challenge or for different challenges) as you want.

How do I tag these summer entries?
Please use tag round: extra 2 for all entries, don't add any of the original round tags (but clearly specify in the text of your entry which challenge and mode was used). As always, use a tag with your username. So the full list of tags in any of these summer entries is:
maker: yourname, round: extra 2

Can I make as hybrid set where I combine different challenges? Like 5 icons for round 1, 5 for round 2 etc?
No, that would be confusing. If you want to, you can post multiple entries for different challenges in one post in your icon community, but those will still be considered separate sets and will have their own votings, so clearly mark what round each entry is for.

Will there still be votings?
Yes, at the end of the extra round all the sets will be compiled together in one voting post as usual (so, only best icon from each set get voted on, no votings between sets themselves).

Again, I want to thank everyone who keeps entering our challenges, especially those who have followed us to DreamWidth and ESPECIALLY those who take the time to leave supportive comments to fellow participants, it means a lot. Have a good summer everyone! <3
